Your Key to the City – Eiji Tanaka – Borough

“Your Key to the City”

London is one of the Greatest and most vibrant Cities in the World, London Bridge and Bermondsey have now become a real culinary destination.

Here are a few of my favourite dining experiences in The Local Area:

Lobos Tapas

Lobos is definitely my favourite tapas restaurant in London, born from the passion of individuals, who helped make tapas one of the essential foods in our City’s culinary scene. It has nothing to envy to the established and famous Spanish eateries around Town.

First Floor Seating                                                        Meat Platter

One of the greatest British Restaurants in Town, located within London’s iconic Borough Market uses the finest seasonal ingredients to create classical British cooking that both supports and celebrates Britain’s farmers and producers, many of whom are stallholders in the market.

Main Restaurant                                                                  Beef

One of the hottest opening of 2016, Padella is a bar serving hand rolled pasta with sauces and fillings inspired from their trips to Italy, Pici cacio e pepe and Pappardelle with 8-hour Dexter beef shin ragu are a must-have.

One of the great things about being a concierge is the relationships that we build with the local restaurants. We do not only try and taste all the local foods, but we personally know all the key people, who will then look after our guests.

Other local places of Interest:

Borough Market

THE Food Market, rich with History, but it remains as relevant now as it has ever been. As London’s oldest food market, it has been serving the people of Southwark for 1000 Years. Today it is still a destination for locals as well as tourists, offering local and international food, and even bakery classes!

Jubilee Walk

London is famous for its extensive network of transports, however I always recommend (weather permitting) a stroll along the River Thames, which gives you a very different prospective of the City. You can start your walk from the Hotel and reach all the way to Westminster and even further. Should you decide to go for a morning run, you can stop by my desk and I’ll provide you with a local Jogging map, and a fresh bottle of water.

Royal Exchange

The Royal Exchange is a luxury destination in the heart of the City, offering an unrivalled collection of boutique shopping and dining within one of London’s most iconic and historic buildings.

Biography of Concierge

I began my hotel career in 2000, when I moved to London as a student of hotel management school and joined the Montcalm Hotel Nikko as a luggage porter as part of my internship program. Here is where I learnt the basics and where I fell in love with this profession. Once I moved to reception for a few years I was given an opportunity to join back to concierge department as Concierge. In 2006, I finally made a challenge to step up my carrier by working in 5 star hotel in Mayfair, the Intercontinental London Park Lane as an opening staff member. Here, in 2010 I have become a proud member of Les Clefs d’Or. In 2012 I also have been promoted to Senior Concierge. After over 8 wonderful years with many achievements, suddenly with fortunate, I have been offered the Head Concierge position in Shangri-La Hotel At The Shard London in 2015. We have been through many since I joined Shangri-La to establish the solid foundation of unique operation in this beautiful elevated hotel above the clouds. I also very much look forward to corroborating closely with les Clefs d’or for the further recognition and networking amongst with fellow members also with international basis.
